Interact with exhibits that showcase the cutting-edge discoveries of Scripps Oceanography explorers through hands-on displays and multimedia. Peek into the aquarium's nursery and view miniature fishes bred and raised by Birch Aquarium aquarists.
The aquarium’s current exhibits include “There's Something About Seahorses,” which takes a close look at these unique sea creatures through a variety of interactive displays. You can also get the facts on the world’s hottest topic at “Feeling the Heat: The Climate Challenge”.
Explore touchable tide pool displays overlooking the spectacular La Jolla coastline and journey through the always fascinating Hall of Fishes. Discover marine sciences through an interactive museum that showcases cutting-edge discoveries by Scripps Oceanography explorers.
Birch Aquarium also offers many opportunities to adventure into our local oceans. Join naturalist led snorkeling trips to swim with schooling leopard sharks, smoothhound sharks, and guitarfish while enjoying the mild surf and gently sloping beach of La Jolla Shores and the adjacent rocky reef.
If you are combining a day at La Jolla Shores beach with an aquarium visit, take a leisurely stroll from La Jolla Shores beach, through the historic Scripps Campus (where free walking tour maps are available), and head up to Birch Aquarium via the footbridge over La Jolla Shores Drive.
Open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. Admission: adults $12; seniors (60 and up) $9; youth (3-17) $8.50; under 3, free. Specialty tours available for an additional fee. Three-hour courtesy parking.
