San Diego North Visitor Profile
In FY08-09, the San Diego North Convention & Visitors Bureau generated $23.8 million in leisure visitor spending and $11.4 million in group visitor spending for a total economic impact of $35.2 million.
According to a recent TNS website survey, 61% of all www.SanDiegoNorth.com website users are considering or planning a trip to San Diego North and 40% subsequently travel to the region. Over half of users travel to San Diego North within a month of their website visit and 80% travel within three months.
The average party size is three people, with over a third bringing children, and the average trip spend per visitor is $1,380. The large majority of visitors drive to San Diego North, while over a quarter fly to the destination.
The average length of stay for all visitors (including those staying with friends and relatives) is six nights, while it is four nights for those staying in paid lodging only (hotels, motels, resorts and B&Bs). About two thirds of all visitors stay in paid accommodation during their stay.
Nearly three out of four visitors will likely visit San Diego North again and nearly half would spread positive word of mouth to others about the region.
The majority of likely visitors want to enjoy nature/outdoor activities, theme/amusement parks, and shopping during their stay, and nearly a third will visit friends and family.
Over 75% of users are married or living together and over 80% have an average household income above $50,000. The majority, nearly 70%, are female.
The San Diego North Convention & Visitors Bureau has 16 staff members, a 20+ member board of directors, and a membership base of over 200. It is currently funded by the San Diego Tourism Marketing District, the County of San Diego, and the cities of Carlsbad, Escondido, Encinitas, Oceanside, San Marcos, Solana Beach and Vista.
