Carlsbad Known as "The Village by the Sea," Carlsbad has the charm of a European village and much of the architecture reflects this old-world theme. The Village with its unique shops, including many sidewalk shops, superb restaurants and romantic hotels, is just a short walk from the beach. Throughout the month of April, the popular flower fields off Palomar Airport Road and Interstate 5 are a rainbow display of ranunculus. See the well in front of Alt Karlsbad Hanse House. The mineral water discovered here matched the properties of the water found in Karlsbad, Bohemia. Del Mar Del Mar has been a favorite of visitors for many years, since the legendary starts of grand ol’ Hollywood made Del Mar a popular summer getaway to take in the Thoroughbred racing season. The city is full of unique shops, restaurants, inns and hotels. Golf, tennis, sailing and hot air ballooning are popular activities to enjoy as well. Encinitas The beautiful grounds at Quail Botanical Gardens, featuring one of the most extensive collection of plants, trees and shrubs, is a favorite of visitors. Known as "The Flower Capital of the World," Encinitas boasts an extensive collection of unique nurseries and gardens. The San Elijo Lagoon, a brackish shallow water wetland, is home to aquatic insects, small fish, and water birds. The cliffs and La Jolla Cove are a dramatic frame to the Pacific Ocean and the community's beaches are popular with divers and marine life enthusiasts.
