In 18 square miles of scenic foothills, just 7 miles from the Pacific Ocean, lies the attractive city of Vista, California. Rising from a height of 160 to 300 feet above sea level, Vista claims the most ideal weather and temperatures in the United States, with smog virtually unknown to the area. There are thousands of acres producing citrus fruits, avocados, macadamia nuts, flowers, cactus and some rare fruits, as well as vegetables. Vista, California also hosts a variety of attractions of interest to tourists, including the Moonlight Amphitheatre for musical theater under the stars, the historic Rancho Buena Vista and Rancho Guajome Adobes. Moonlight Amphitheatre
The Moonlight Amphitheatre features 899 permanent seats with lawn seating for approximately 1,200 people. Five Broadway-style musicals with professional stars work onstage in the summer season from June through September.
Avo Playhouse
The Avo Playhouse is a fully equipped performance venue with a 382-seat auditorium. Several dance companies and children’s theatre organizations grace the stage regularly, as does the “Moonlight at the Avo”, a winter season of plays and musicals produced by Moonlight Stage Productions. The intimate theatre is located in the downtown district of Vista, California.
Rancho Buena Vista Adobe
The 151-year old Rancho Buena Vista Adobe is the birthplace of Vista, California, and resides upon the last remaining 1.9 acres of its original 1845 grant. Inside is a superb exhibition of heirloom-quality artifacts of the period. Visitors are welcome Wednesday – Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. (closed on holidays and during private events).
The Wave Waterpark
The Wave Waterpark is a state-of-the-art municipally operated family aquatic park in Vista, California. The attractions include the Flow Rider, four water slides, Crazy River, a competition pool and a children’s water playground. The park is open May through September, and swim programs are offered throughout the year.
Antique Gas & Steam Engine Museum
With 40 acres, the Antique Gas & Steam Engine Museum is the only “early farm life” museum in Southern California. The museum provides a unique opportunity to see handweaving, blacksmithing, a farm kitchen and parlor, tractors, and gas and steam engines. Harvest Fairs are held on the third and fourth weekends of June and October.
